One of the perks of being rich and famous is that you can get away with a lot ... until you can't. Whether caused by alleged prejudices, substance abuse problems, or simple entitlement, Mel Gibson, Courtney Love, and Alec Baldwin are just a few of the stars who've had to undergo anger management counseling with varying degrees of success after getting into trouble with the law.
These famous folks, ranging from Oscar winners, to supermodels, to rock stars, to reality show fixtures, all drove others mad when they got mad. Sometimes their fits of rage resulted in violence, sometimes in property damage, and sometimes in just hellish workplaces for their colleagues (until some of them got fired). Regardless of the degree of severity, it's clear that all of these celebs have serious anger management issues.
And if you feel like you can't control your anger — or if you fear the actions of someone else's rage — you can call SafeHorizon for help 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 1-800-621-HOPE (4673).
Cardi B's fury can lead to bloody shoes indeed
Cardi B admitted in her feature on Migos' "Drip," "I gotta work on my anger / Might kill a b***h with my fingers." She wasn't kidding: In October 2018, Cardi turned herself in to police and was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and assault, TMZ reported. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident in August 2018 in which Cardi was accused of ordering a beatdown of two strip club bartenders, one of whom Cardi reportedly believed slept with her husband, rapper Offset. The women denied any affair with Offset and did note that Cardi herself hadn't physically attacked them, but claimed she threatened them on social media. As of this writing, the case is ongoing, and Cardi reportedly rejected a plea deal in April 2019.
In September 2018, Cardi got into an even more infamous scuffle when she threw a shoe at Nicki Minaj at a New York Fashion Week party. TMZ footage reportedly shows Cardi shouting expletives and trying to make her way through a crowd of security and entourage members to get at Minaj. The outlet reported that Cardi approached Minaj's entourage "aggressively," though other sources told the site that she wasn't actually looking for a fight, but snapped after a security guard allegedly elbowed her. Cardi wrote on Instagram after the melee that Minaj had been talking smack about her and trying to sabotage her career, which Minaj later denied on her Queen Radio.
Alec Baldwin still doesn't think he has a problem
Alec Baldwin's temper is the only thing shorter than the lifespan of his MSNBC show. In 1995, Baldwin was placed under a citizen's arrest after he allegedly punched a photographer, per The Los Angeles Times. The paparazzo allegedly argued with Baldwin over snapping his then-wife Kim Basinger and their newborn daughter, Ireland. The photographer accused Baldwin of "possibly breaking" his nose, which Baldwin denied. Baldwin was arrested on suspicion of battery and no charges were filed.
In 2007, in the midst of his nasty custody battle with Basinger, Baldwin left Ireland an infamous voicemail in which he called her a "rude, thoughtless little pig." He issued a public apology, blaming his outburst on "parental alienation."
Baldwin's distaste for paparazzi only grew after his first alleged offense in 1995. He was accused of punching a Daily News photographer in 2012, which he denied. In 2013, he allegedly chased a photographer and called him a homophobic slur (Baldwin denied using the slur). The same year, he called a writer a "toxic little queen" on Twitter, then apologized. He was arrested in 2014 for allegedly berating police officers who ticketed him for biking the wrong way down one-way street. In January 2019, he pleaded guilty to harassment after an alleged altercation over a parking space. He was sentenced to anger management, about which he told Howard Stern, "When you go to anger management, you realize you're not that angry."
