Dr Kenneth Peacock Obituary – Kenneth E. Peacock, who had previously served as chancellor of Appalachian State University, passed away. Unexpectedly passing away early on Friday morning, Ken Peacock served as chancellor of Appalachian State University for a decade before passing away. In an email sent out to the community of the institution on Friday afternoon, the current chancellor, Sheri Everts, broke the news of Peacock’s passing.

His age was 75. The couple, Rosanne and he, made their home in Bermuda Run. Peacock oversaw the founding of the College of Health Sciences during his tenure as chancellor from 2004 to 2014. He also oversaw the opening of a new building for the Reich College of Education and initiated a program that provides low-income students from North Carolina with the opportunity to get a degree without incurring any student loan debt.

During his tenure as chancellor, enrollment skyrocketed, which he attributes, in part, to the success of the university’s football team, which won national titles in 2005, 2006, and 2007, respectively. Peacock was employed by Appalachian State University for more than 31 years, first as a professor and dean of the Walker College of Business, and then as chancellor from 2004 to 2014. During his tenure as chancellor, Peacock oversaw a multitude of successes for both the university and the college.

Peacock is credited with establishing the university as a leader in undergraduate research; growing App State’s academic enterprise significantly in the areas of health care; establishing the College of Health Sciences; opening a new building for the Reich College of Education; leading significant growth in the nexus of energy, the environment, and economics; and moving the athletics programs to the Sun Belt Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision.
