For the longest time, Tyler and Duffy were the two bright spots aboard the fishing vessel, Pinwheel. Even when the sea got rough, or at times when they didn’t get a good haul, the pair always had each other’s back. This was until July of 2018 when Duffy passed away suddenly due to decompression sickness. And while Tyler did take some time off to honor his friend, he had to return to the sea, after all, the bluefin tuna would not wait for anyone. The new season of Wicked Tuna saw Tyler back on his fishing journey however this time he sought help within the family. The person who replaced the vacant seat of first mate is none other than Marissa McLaughlin.
Who is Marissa McLaughlin?
Marrisa Mclaughlin is not your typical girl. She is a fearless fisher who has been catching giant bluefin tuna with her brother Tyler Mclaughlin, on the National Geographic reality show Wicked Tuna. Together, they sail on the Pinwheel, a boat that has earned a reputation for catching some of the biggest and most valuable bluefin tuna in the ocean. She also takes part in the spin-off show, Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown, where she faces off with other boats from different regions for the ultimate tuna trophy. Marissa is not only a talented fisherwoman but also a college graduate and social media influencer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and communication from Suffolk University in Boston, where she honed her skills in reporting, writing, and editing.
Early Life & education:
Marissa McLaughlin was born on the 17th of April 1990 in New Hampshire, U.S.A. She is the daughter of Marty McLaughlin. While little is known about her mother, Marty is a passionate fisherman and the owner and president of McLaughlin Transportation. Marrisa and her elder brother Tyler grew up fishing with their father, who taught them everything they know about the sport.
Even though Marissa loved fishing as a little girl and everything seemed a perfect setup for a fisherman career, she had other hopes and aspirations. She was a good student in school and wanted to pursue a college degree. Following matriculation, Marissa studied Broadcast Journalism / Communications at Suffolk University and graduated in 2013.
