Her father was a homebuilder and the family often moved around including in some of the homes he built. From an early age, she started taking piano lessons and went on to further her education in music.
She is married to Billy Mac McCarthy, a singer, and songwriter who she met in 1974 at a gig. They formed a music partnership and toured over the decade. along the line, they got married.
