Morgan Kolkmeyer has traveled across the world chasing storms. A meteorologist by trade, Kolkmeyer found her passion for storms when she was in the eye of Hurricane Charley. Since then, the 31 years old has been chasing storms all around the great plains. Currently employed at the WGN WeatherCenter team as a meteorologist, Morgan is also the weather anchor for the WGN Morning News. While meteorologist wasn’t Morgan’s first choice of job, she took an instant liking to the job and has been working at it ever since. Upbringing & Education

Morgan Kolkmeyer was born on the 3rd of September, 1991, in Rockford, Chicago, Illinois. Born to John and Jennifer Kolkmeyer, Morgan also has an older sister named Mallory who currently works as a teacher. From a young age, Morgan was involved in music and sports and her parents thoroughly supported her career choice. She played basketball throughout high school and continued the sport during her university days. After graduating from Harlem High School in 2009 she earned her associate’s degree at Rock Valley College. She then attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts, meteorology, and a minor in applied mathematical science.

Love for the Weather

As a young kid, Morgan did not have much passion for the weather. During high school, Morgan went on a vacation with her parents. She was caught in the eye of Hurricane Charley in 2004, which greatly enhanced her passion for weather. As Morgan puts it,

“I actually thought I would teach calculus one day. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I realized how much math was involved in getting a meteorology degree, and I chose to study weather with a minor in mathematics. I felt I had finally found the perfect combination of a career involving two things I loved.”
