SERU makes a vital contribution to forming new business relationships and networks between Newcastle University and the local, national and international business communities.

Market Research

Through its Marketing Information Service (MIS) unit, SERU has supported well over 200 firms and entrepreneurs by providing them with customised market research reports, surgeries and business advice. Clients have come to SERU directly or have been referred to us by one of our numerous partner organisations, such as;

  • Greenesfield (Gateshead Council)

  • The Hatchery (Sunderland University)

  • Building Up Business (North Tyneside Council)

  • Derwentside District Council

MIS also provides support to internal clients within Newcastle University, delivering numerous reports for;

  • Centre for Enterprise

  • Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering

  • Resource Centre for Innovation and Design (RCID)

To learn more about the MIS unit, please visit the dedicated MIS homepage.

Workshops and Seminars

A distinct advantage of SERU's extensive network of consultants and business partners is its ability to develop highly technical, market-specific courses and workshops, as well as more generic seminars relating to market research and business planning. Materials for the workshops can also come from SERU's own vast array of databases and technical expertise built from major research projects conducted through its Small Enterprise Research Unit (SERU). Courses that have been developed by SERU include;

  • Four-Session Module for the Faculty of Science at Newcastle University (Construction)

  • Workshops for the Business Development unit at Newcastle University (IPR Awareness)

  • Workshops for the Employee Relations Forum (Flexible Working Practices, E-Flexibility)

  • Day Courses for the North East Chamber of Commerce (IPR, SET business planning)
