He serves as the Chief Operating Officer of OpenAI, overseeing its business, operations, and strategic partnerships across research, applied AI, and go-to-market. He also manages the OpenAI Startup Fund, a $100 million investment fund that supports startups that share OpenAI’s vision of creating a positive impact through AI.

Brad Lightcap was born in 1991 in the United States. He grew up with a passion for technology and entrepreneurship and was inspired by the likes of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.
He attended Duke University, where he majored in Economics and History, graduating in 2012. He was also involved in various extracurricular activities, such as the Duke Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club, the Duke Student Government, and the Duke Chronicle.
